Philip Modinos
Philip Modinos is a Greek tenor, producer, pianist and conductor whose work has moved repeatedly between disciplines rather than following a single conventional path.
His performing career spans more than two decades and includes leading tenor repertoire in opera and concert, with appearances in Greece, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Spain, Cyprus, Egypt and elsewhere. His roles have included Radamès, Manrico, Don José, Cavaradossi, Rodolfo, Pollione, Don Carlo, Siegfried, Canio, Pinkerton, Otello, Gabriele Adorno and many others. Alongside singing, he has also worked as a pianist, conductor, stage director, lighting designer and technical collaborator.
Production gradually became an equally important part of his work. He co-founded Skull of Yorick Productions, later established Hellenic Opera Corporation, and created or collaborated on opera productions, tours, festivals and interdisciplinary projects across Greece and Europe. His work has involved theatres, orchestras, municipalities, conservatoires, universities and cultural institutions, as well as European programmes including Erasmus+ and Creative Europe collaborations.
His history is considerably less typical than a traditional artistic biography suggests. At different points it has also included rock music, television, radio, experimental productions, touring theatre, visual and technical design, cultural project development and a persistent tendency to move between roles rather than remain inside a single one.
